Makali Durga Fort Trek

Makalidurga, a historical hill fort near Bengaluru, derives its name from two intriguing sources. Legend has it that the fort was named after the "Makali Beru," a medicinal plant whose juice is believed to purify the blood. Additionally, Makaliraya, a local ruler, reportedly used the fort as a granary in the late 19th century, contributing to the name.

Rich in history and legend, Makalidurga is said to be the site of Markandeya Rishi's penance. Over the centuries, the fort has witnessed the rule of various dynasties, including the Vijayanagara Empire, the Nayakas, and Shahaji Bhosle, the father of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Located about 60 kilometers from Bengaluru and 15 kilometers from Doddaballapur, Makalidurga is easily accessible by road and rail. This picturesque hill fort offers a rewarding trek for beginners and experienced trekkers alike, making it a popular choice for a quick weekend getaway.
